  • 1 x Hades Cruiser
  • 1 x Devastation Cruiser

Imperial Raiders

  • Surprise roll off!
The mission is for the chaos to escort their pack of transport ships (proxied by eldar escorts) from one side to the other. The imperials get 5 + D3 "contact tokens", which are then rolled against to see what they are.  You may roll VERY lucky and get 8 cruisers by rolling 8 6's but luckily this wasn't the case.

Once the imperial player has rolled and selected his ships or fighter craft, he then assigns them secretly to each token, which are then revealed when I get too close or voluntarily by the imperial player.

Turn one, I gather my transports on one side and fly them forward with the all ahead full order.  The Devastation carrier launches defensive fighters ahead of them to screen for any incoming torpedos or bombers.    My transports get too close to a marker, which is then revealed to be a group of 3 Firestorm escorts!  Thankfully they fly away in terror or maybe to regroup... ;)

The firestorms do a 180 and take some long range lance shots at my escort group, luckily only one shot found its mark and downed a shield temporarily. The transports wind their way through the asteroids with no problems, but then a squad of 3 sword class esocrts appear from a nearby contact marker! They position themselves at close range to my Murder class cruiser and unleash a barrage of locked-on firepower, which tears through the cruisers shields and cripples the cruiser down to two hull points. AGhh!!

Retribution would come soon enough however... A number of fighters were recalled back to the carrier with assault boats shooting off to kill two escorts. The remaining escort enjoyed a combination of fire from the Devastation shooting its weapon batteries and lance shots, along with a lance shot from the now crippled murder. Nothing was left except some toasty space debris... ah sweet revenge

An Imperial cruiser appeared from a nearby contact marker, along with a pack of 3 Cobra escorts entered the scene and positioned themselves for a torpedo run. The imperial cruiser let rip with the gunnery, killing off two transport ships. The Murder, now heavily damaged, smashed the button and sped up to RAMMING SPEED. Wack!!! The ship smashed into the side of the Imperial cruiser causing two points of damage before destroying itself.  The Devastation cruiser and transports added their firepower to cripple the Imperial cruiser, causing a critical hit on the engines.. as it slowly coasted towards a nearby asteroid. Bwhahaha

Much to my displeasure, the Imperial cruiser JUST missed the asteroid and took some shots off at my escorts who were busy killing the Imperial firestorm escorts.  The Devastation cruiser failed to reload and could not launch any bombers.

The Cobra escorts snuck through and unleashed a barrage of torpedos, which wrecked the transport ships as they sailed through the convoy formation. At least two ships were destroyed. In subsequent turns, the Cobras edged forward and shot another devastating round of torpedos before eventually getting too close and being destroyed with defensive fire from the escorting ships.

With little to oppose them, the transports sped forward as fast as their little engines would push, but a contact marker lay up ahead.. what would it reveal?

Bombers! Lots of Bombers is what the contact marker was hiding.  The bomber wave split into three, with each tab attacking a single ship. The transport ships braced for impact to try and survive the attack.  It didn't work very well and two transports where annihilated.

However with nothing to oppose them, the remaining 6 transports made it through to the opposite side to deliver their much needed cargo of space-furbies.
