  • Dictators x 2
  • Dominator
  • Swords x 3
  • Firestorm x 3
  • Cobra x 3

This was an upscaled demo battle. Players at my club are still relatively new so we just did a simple "kill everything" mission with a 1500pt roster.

To start the game we rolled off to see who would deploy first and then placed our most expensive ship first and then alternated ship placement.

I deployed my Hades and Murder duo on the left hand side and then positioned the rest of the ships in the center of the board with a heading towards the left of the board.
The Imperials placed the Dictator and escorts on the left, carriers in the middle and the Emperor on the far right hand side.

I was worried about the nova cannon but was keen to drill through enemy lines with the Hades/Murders and so placed the ships on all ahead full and then lock-on in the subsequent turn for a fairly OK shooting round on the dictator and cobra escorts with 8 locked on lance shots. TheCobras were mostly annihilated but not before they were able to send off a torpedo volley, which was unfortunately intercepted  (just!) by a fighter tab that came screaming out from the despoiler. The despoiler and repulsive shot out some speculative torpedoes along with some fighter/assault boats. The torpedos would miss their mark and fly past into the void.

The Chaos fleet quickly got into combat with the remaining cobras and sword escorts being absolutely... murdered 😉    I couldn't resist as the escorts were all head-on and so were shot to pieces with weapons batteries and some very long ranged lances from the despoiler and repulsive. They braced for impact, which meant they soaked up a lot more firepower but in the end they were just space dust.  The murders and hades shot their laces at the two imperial carriers in the middle of the board to do a little bit of damage.   The imperials held off shooting their torpedoes hoping for an overwhelming torpedo and bomber combo. The emperor was too far out to do anything but shoot out assault boats. The firestorm escorts got into position behind the nearby asteroid field.

Fearing the incoming torpedo and bomber waves (12 torpedoes and 16 bombers/assault boats), the chaos fleet massed together for turret support and launched a series of fighters stationed on CAP to try and mitigate the incoming salvos.

Party time! The two imperial carriers shot off their salvos of torpedoes at the murders, which were immediately naturalized by CAP fighters.   Bombers were launched from the carriers as were assault boats from the nearby emperor.  The fighters on CAP blunted the attack and then there were a LOT of turrets on the despoiler and repulsive due to the turret massing. They who rolled extremely well with many tabs of bombers blasted into pieces. The survivors didn't do well as their bomb rolls were reduced down to nothing by the high turret value or did not penetrate the armour. It could had been very very bad for me  if I had not massed turrets and went completely defensive with my fighters.

The carriers then opened up with their weapon batteries but failed to do any damage due to only having the repulsive and a iconoclast  in arc (no hits). The dominator on the left locked on and shot at the Hades, getting through the shields and disabling the prow weaponry!

After that, the chaos retaliated with everything they had. Weapons, lances, bombers.. everything..  the two imperial carriers where annihilated and reduced to hulk by the sheer volume of firepower . The dominator on the left had damaged engines from the escort barrage. The ship slowly costed to the edge of the board after failing to disengage. The emperor and firestorms seeing how things where heading warped off to holy Terra... no doubt with an alternative take on how the battle went and why they were the only survivors
