Test of Honour - School in Session
So this is a very quick write-up of a demo game of Test of Honour.
We played two games. The first was to capture as many objectives as you could by turn 5. The second game was a simple "kill the samurai" scenario.
The two squads teams were both 15 points and composed of a very similar setup. Team 1 had spearmen with the leader armed with a mighty tetsubo. Team 2 had Ronin and their leader had a heavy sword (nodachi)
We took turns in setting up the terrain and the position of our troops. Nothing overly tactical here.
A fight broke out but only resulted in both slightly wounding each other for a blood drop each.
My musketman set up by the fence and took a shot off at the blue samurai. HIT and as the enemy samurai was out of actions he was not able to dodge. Strength 4 gun plus one blood drop = 5 dice to roll for the kill.. Sure enough the samurai fell to a bullet in his face.
Many turns occurred and I forgot to take photos.. whops... so basically what happened is that my spearmen advanced up towards the objective on the right. They got shot with arrows for their trouble and lost a man. My leader with his mighty tetsubo sprinted ahead and killed off most of the Ronin leaving one on the floor due to a sweet critical hit. I realised the turn counter and so sprinted back to try and claim an objective with him. The enemy leader walked forward but received another shot, which caused another blood drop.
We had leader vs leader duel, which came to very little despite rolling a massive 6 dice to wound! ALL BLANKS!!! AGGGhhhh... my leader will certainly conduct seppuku if he survives!
The second round of combat found its mark and "killed" off the leader with a critical hit. However he rolled for his "test of honour" and came back to life with a slight dent in his head.
Eager for glory my lone musketman jumped over the fence and poked the enemy leader with the barrel of his gun, which proved too much with his blood drops. FATALITY! What a way to go..
The time was up and my team had the majority of objectives and were crowned the winners.
The two new players were not blown away with the first game in terms of enjoyment. For the second game where we played kill the leader (no photos of this unfortunately :/ ) it was much more enjoyable for us both. The fun part was knowing that your leader could be an absolutely slaughterhouse and would do most of the killing, but only by putting himself in harms way, so there was a dance of blades as we both tried to position our leader so they could happily carve their way through troops but have nearby friends in a position to block the enemy leader.
The game ended with the opponents samurai killing off with a fearesome blow my tetsubo leader. Good game!
